What does the process look like?

Example: Personalised Literacy Intervention Package

At Flourish, Personalised Literacy Intervention sessions are intentionally designed to do more than help with weekly homework.
Every child receives personalised, evidence-based support built around their specific learning profile, confidence level, and academic goals.

Our structured process allows us to identify learning gaps, explicitly teach essential skills, and track meaningful progress over time — helping children build both capability and confidence.

❋ Step 1 — Initial Diagnostic Screening

Foundation Years (Reception–Year 2)

  • Letter-sound knowledge
  • Decoding/ blending
  • High-frequency words
  • Oral reading fluency
    accuracy
  • Comprehension retell

Primary Years (Years 3–7)

  • Spelling Analysis
  • Reading Fluency & Comprehension
  • Writing Sample Analysis

Following the assessment, families receive a personalised learning profile outlining:

  • Current skill levels

  • Key areas requiring support

  • Recommended teaching priorities

  • Initial learning goals

This becomes the foundation for your child’s learning plan

Using the screening results, we create 3 Key Learning Goals to focus We focus on a small number of high-impact goals at a time to maximise progress.

Examples may include:

  • Improving reading comprehension

  • Writing structured paragraphs

  • Strengthening sentence fluency

  • Building phonics confidence

Targeted areas of instruction may include:

  • Reading strategies

  • Explicit writing instruction

  • Grammar and spelling

  • Vocabulary development

  • Comprehension skills

❋ Step 2- Individual Learning Plan (ILP)

❋ Step 3- A Typical Session

Sessions follow a structured, research-informed teaching model designed to build confidence through explicit instruction and guided support.

1. Explicit Teaching (10–15 minutes)

Students are directly taught one specific skill at a time.

Examples include:

  • How to write a strong topic sentence

  • Breaking down comprehension questions

  • Improving sentence structure

  • Using persuasive language effectively

This step ensures children fully understand the skill before applying it independently.

2. Guided Practice and Independent Application (20 minutes)

Students practise the skill alongside teacher support.

During this stage, scaffolding and feedback are provided to help students apply new learning successfully and build confidence.

Students can then independently apply the skill to strengthen mastery and independence.

This allows us to assess true understanding and monitor progress over time.

3. Feedback & Goal Setting (5 minutes)

Each session finishes with:

  • One identified strength

  • One improvement focus

  • A goal for the following session

This keeps students motivated, supported, and aware of their progress.
